Hello Intervarsity and friends!!

Looking for a way to keep up with quiet times? Want to stay connected with people from Duke during the summer? Interested in exploring new ways to delight in God?

Prayer Team is excited to bring you 2012 SUMMER DEVOTIONALS :)

The devotional goes from May 15th to August 15th, each day with a different reflection, prayer, journal, or activity. These entries were written by people in the chapter and collected from various other sources. We hope you will be encouraged by it and have as much fun going through it as we have had putting it together.

We invite you to come on this journey with us! Click here for the summer devo. (If you want to print it out, we suggest booklet printing: Print –> Properties –> Printing shortcuts –> Booklet Printing).

Email ivpteam@googlegroups.com if you want to be held accountable to keeping up with the devo. We will send you periodic reminders :) Also, email us if at any point during the summer you want to share about how God’s been working in your life, either through the devotional or in general. We would love to hear your stories!

Have a fantastic summer and may God be glorified through it,
IV Prayer Team 2011-2012

Andrew Marin, author of “Love is an Orientation”, at Duke InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Large Group on Friday April 6, 2012.

“When someone tells you that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or just have a same-sex attraction—and then asks you: “Do you think my thoughts and feelings are a sin? What if I don’t act on them? What if I do because I feel like I’m gay? Was I born this way? I believe I was born this way, and I don’t want to change. Can I be a gay Christian? Am I going to hell? The Bible says I’m an abomination and I should be put to death. Why?” These are serious questions, and they can definitively affect how a person lives the rest of their life. This session will go through each of those questions and how to productively answer them so as to build a bridge for eternity.”

Hey everyone!

We’re having our first IV Dialogue this Sunday at Grace’s at 1:45 PM! What exactly are these IV Dialogue series? Our hope is to create an open and safe space where our IV chapter can discuss topics that we normally wouldn’t be able to have an extended discussion about as a community. Some topics that we will be discussing in the upcoming series include race, gender, inclusiveness/exclusiveness within IV, LGBTQ topics, the party culture, socio-economic status, and our role in relating to the diverse communities on our campus. This Sunday, we will be discussing Race! How does race play a role in our community? Everyone is welcome to join in these conversations, so if you have the time, please come and join us! If you have any questions, please email:

What? A time when our chapter rests!
How? By not holding any IV sponsored events (small group, large group, team meetings, frisbee, basketball, etc)
When? October 1 (after the discipleship interest meeting) to October 11 @ midnight
Why? To …

  • Clear the calendar and do stuff with God (Pray by yourself. Pray with someone else. Sing songs. Spend time in the Word. Visit the Duke Gardens and enjoy God’s creation. Make a list of things you are thankful for. Create. Memorize your favorite piece of Scripture. Write poetry. Tell your family how God’s been working in your life. Simply sit in His presence. The possibilities are endless!)
  • Prioritize rest. School is a pretty hectic, crazy place, but God calls us to a different lifestyle. We want to model that as a community, so we’re all taking the week off to explore what it means to rest in God.
  • Sometimes, as a community, we hold community as an idol. It’s good to loose yourself from distractions and focus on the person who really matters, Jesus!

Here are some resources that may be helpful:

Enjoy this time of rest and see you after Fall Break :)
