Prism Multicultural SLG

About Us

Name: Courtney Conner

Class: Sophomore

Major: Public Policy with a Global Health Certificate

Interests and Hobbies: I enjoy painting, sketching, singing, walking, talking, watching movies, and hanging out with my friends.

Why did I join Prism? I saw it as an opportunity to create stronger friendships, gain experience working with a group, and learn more about myself and others.

Name: Pengpeng Wang

Class: Junior

Major: Economics/Political Science

After one year’s study abroad program in Edens Quad, I made one of the wisest decisions in my life: to continue her program for another year with other amazing Prism people! If you like authentic dumplings, Bollywood movies, Salsa music and African dance, I’m sure we can become great friends and you’ll love Prism as I do!

Name: China Walker

China is a sophomore at Duke and has absolutely no idea of what she wants to do for her life (possible majors include: public policy, political science, english, literature, or history.). She is an active member of Habitat for Humanity, a mentor for Movement of Youth, a  DJ at WXDU, and a forward for Duke Women’s Club rugby.  She enjoys finding new music, traveling, reading, and community service.

Name: Betty Collada

Betty Collada is one of our junior members. Originally from Cuba, she now lives in Miami and enjoys everything its warm weather and beaches have to offer (and can make some mean Cuban dishes!). She is currently studying for her MCAT, and as our secretary this year, is very excited to meet all of our wonderful rushees.

Name: Chelsea Zhou

Class: Sophomore

Major: Biology/Pre-Med(for now)

Although I was born in China, I consider myself a New Yorker. I am an active member of ThoseWhoNeedAtLeast8HoursofSleep and Procrastinators United. Like Starbursts, I’m a contradiction—of sappiness and corrupted humor. Things I do not approve of: horror movies, thunder, heights, and bathrooms sans light.

Tori Reynolds is a sophomore with little idea what she’s majoring in, except that it will probably involve science. At Duke, she has been involved with Project Child, HCEP, and Duke Language Partners; she’s also worked as a TA for Comp. Sci. 4 and as a research assistant at the Psychology (DIISP) Lab. Watch out for the hidden cameras! Tori speaks English, Spanish, and Arabic as well as a smattering of French, Italian, and Chinese. She enjoys playing the violin and guitar, running, and sleeping, which she unfortunately does not get to do very often at Duke.

Hi! I’m Julie Wangombe, I’m a sophomore and ICS major and PRISMs resident kenyan!:D Things I love include laughing alot, travelling, sleeping [trying not to do too much of that], learning new things (most recently that includes guitar and french), poetry, writing, singing (I’m always singing apparently especially in elevators) and I’m sure there are a few other things in there. So far I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life [lets call it an adventure] but I DO hope it will involve traveling a whole lot and learning about different cultures (hence, PRISM:-). Oh I like books by the way. And tea if you care for that kind of thing:-) and fruit. and music and controversial topics of conversation [i.e arguing] and having deep conversations about God [Christianity] and/or religion..and I think I’ll stop there:-)

Name: Aadya Deshpande

Class: Sophomore

I was born in India but I went to school in Singapore so I consider myself a Singaporean. Right now, I’m planning to be a psychology major/pre-med. My interests include Korean pop music, Asian dramas, and rock music.
