Brief History:
The precursor of Prism was Spectrum house, which was divided into Prism and the Presidents Council on Black Affairs early this past decade. While PCOBA became the activist portion of Spectrum, Prism became the residential. Since its inception Prism has been housed in Few andWannamaker dorms and this year resides in Edens.
In 2009, Prism became a charter organization for the Selective House Council, which governs the selective living groups on campus that are not fraternities.
Mission:
Though our mission is simple on the surface, to use social and cultural activities to educate respectful individuals capable of navigating an increasingly global community, the existence of Prism Hall raises an important question: What is multiculturalism exactly?
What is Multiculturalism?
Multiculturalism can be viewed as a way of approaching culture. An attitude of multiculturalism embraces and respects differences among individuals as a source of strength. No matter how varied our persectives may be, we all share one fundamental thing in common–our humanity. Prism Hall exists as a direct acknowledgement of this ideal.
